BSI shortlisted for the Net Zero Transition Award at the Reuters Responsible Business Awards 2023

BSI, the business improvement and standards organization, has been shortlisted for the Net Zero Transition Award at the Reuters Responsible Business Awards 2023, celebrating the steps it is taking to accelerate progress towards a sustainable world.

The Net Zero Transition Award recognises an organization that can demonstrate a tangible transition toward a 1.5-degree goal, through a publicly communicated net zero commitment, plus data, disclosures and investments to support it.

As a purpose-driven organization, BSI has always existed to have a positive impact on society and has made a public commitment to achieving net zero in their operations by 2030, alongside work to support organizations to accelerate their own progress towards net zero.

Setting their goals in line with the Paris Agreement, in under seven years BSI aims to reduce their scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% against their baseline measurement, and their scope 3 emissions by 42%.

To achieve these goals, BSI has implemented a plan to achieve net zero goals by empowering leaders across every part of the organization to make a difference. BSI’s Carbon Allowance Model gives leaders across the organization personal ownership and accountability for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction by introducing a designated carbon budget for each division and function and linking the achievement of organizational net zero goals to leaders’ and managers’ remuneration.

At the core of BSI’s net zero transition plan has been the successful application of related standards and their own sustainability solutions to establish the structure of their net zero strategy and increase its maturity. Embedding sustainability in process has seen the successful application of sustainable events guidelines, the significant increase in the uptake of electric/hybrid vehicles and the implementation of a sustainable travel decision process, to name a few.

Ghinwa Chammas, Director of Group Sustainability, commented: “I am so proud of the work that my team and I have delivered this year, collaborating across the organization to develop and implement a net zero strategy for BSI that will see us achieve our decarbonization goals in our operations by 2030 and ultimately accelerate progress towards a sustainable world.

“Reuters has an outstanding reputation as a deeply trusted resource for news and factual reporting. It is an honour to be nominated for this prestigious award by a partner also driven by strong purpose and positive impact.”

Being shortlisted for this prestigious award sees BSI recognised alongside other leading organizations across various sectors and regions such as EY, Ovo, Bank of America, United Airlines, and Prologis to name a few.

The winners will be announced on 1st November in London.
