Wold sustainability awards 2023

BSI, the business improvement and standards organization, has been shortlisted for two awards at the World Sustainability Leader Awards. The Royal Charter organization is up for the ‘Sustainability Team’ award, while BSI Director of Group Sustainability, Ghinwa Chammas, has been shortlisted for ‘Sustainability Leader of the Year’.

The Sustainability Team Award recognises teams that share a clear purpose, drive progress and effect change. As a purpose-driven organization, BSI has always existed to have a positive impact on society. The BSI sustainability team live this purpose by setting a strategic ambition to become a sustainability exemplar in BSI’s operations. By embedding BSI’s own sustainability solutions, they aim to create positive change that can be shared to support other organizations looking to move from sustainability ambition to action.

As part of their work, the BSI sustainability team have implemented a plan to achieve net zero by empowering leaders across every part of the organization to make a difference. BSI’s innovative Carbon Allowance Model offers its leaders the opportunity to take personal ownership and accountability for their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction. This is achieved by introducing designated carbon budgets for each division and function and linking the achievement of organizational net zero goals to individual remuneration.

Shortlisted for the Sustainability Leader Award, Ghinwa Chammas is recognized as a leader who empowers her team, inspires progress, and is focused on delivering sustainable growth for BSI. With deep experience building sustainability strategies in high-footprint industries, Ghinwa has helped BSI accelerate its own progress towards long-term sustainability by collaborating across every function, division and region of BSI.

Ghinwa Chammas commented: “It’s such a privilege to be nominated for WSA’s prestigious Sustainability Leader of the Year award. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my colleagues at BSI and our collective focus on improving our sustainability. Having a robust sustainability function can help organizations in all sectors turn ambition into action to protect the planet. At BSI it is no different.

I’m so proud of my team for being nominated for WSA’s Sustainability Team of the Year award. This recognizes the significant progress we have already made having only been fully formed under a year ago and acknowledges the leadership BSI is showing in sustainability. As partners in progress, I hope BSI continue to inspire but also learn and continuously improve.”

Being shortlisted for these prestigious awards sees BSI recognized alongside other leading organizations, including GSK, Paramount, TELUS, Société Générale and many others.

The winners will be announced on 19 October at The Garden of Amsterdam.
