BS EN 50131-1:2018+A3:2020 Alarm systems – Intrusion and hold-up systems – System requirements
The “go-to” European code on intruder and hold-up alarm systems has been amended
What does BS EN 50131-1:2018+A3:2020 do?
This European standard specifies performance requirements for intrusion and hold-up alarm systems (I&HAS) installed in buildings. It includes four security grades and four environmental classes. These enable manufacturers, installers, purchasers and procurers to ensure that an alarm system is fit for purpose and meets the risk assessment criteria.
Why use BS EN 50131-1:2018+A3:2020?
I&HAS enhance the security of supervised premises. The standard exists to help insurers, intruder alarm companies, customers and the police achieve a complete and accurate specification of the supervision required in particular premises. As such it’s a fundamental standard for I&HAS professionals and is recognized throughout the UK and Europe.
How has the standard changed?
It’s been amended because it needed to provide more content on remote services for maintaining an I&HAS. Also, to improve security, a framework for remote user access to the I&HAS has been added. This update now reflects current industry practice.
