Innovation is fundamental to the UK’s long-term success.  It underpins productivity and our national prosperity. Disruptive certainly, but crucial to the creation of new products and services that will change the way we live and work in ways we cannot yet imagine. As an engineer, your role is central to the process by which technological innovations transform our society and economy.

But what is ‘successful’ innovation?  How do you plan for this disruption?  How do we ensure new technology is fit for purpose, before it even reaches the end user? And how do we deal with the ever increasing pace of technological change?

This conference will seek to answer these key questions and more, and will demonstrate how standards and standardization provides a valuable and necessary framework for innovation, ensuring the appropriateness and safety of the applications of future technologies.

The Future of Engineering annual conference series was created to introduce standards to engineering professionals, and to encourage them to engage in the standards development process. The events cover engineering as a whole, but have a direct interest to those in the electrotechnical sector.  Now in its 6th year, they are a co-production between partners BSI, IET, GAMBICA, BEAMA and AMDEA, and directly support the IEC’s Young Professionals Programme.

There will also be opportunities to interact with other engineers on career and professional issues.
