BSI and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) have developed a handbook for Government ministers entitled 'Standards and accreditation – tools for delivering better regulation'. This handbook explains how standards and accreditation can help Government to deliver policy through self-regulation, earned recognition and co-regulation and in line with better regulation principles.
The handbook has been distributed to all Government ministers from the Prime Minister's office with an accompanying letter that highlights the benefits of standards and accreditation as alternatives to regulation.
The development of the handbook followed discussions between BSI, UKAS and the Cabinet Office Minister for Government Policy. It was written by Richard Collin and Daniel Mansfield in BSI's External Policy department with UKAS colleagues and the support of the BIS innovation team.
