What’s this event about?

Standards set out best practice in a very wide range of disciplines and subjects and as such are a powerful tool for helping businesses improve their competitiveness, resilience and societal contribution.

With that in mind this in-person event will use individual client case studies to illustrate how certain sustainability and digitization standards can be deployed to help your business accelerate change for the better. We’ll also look at how your organization can use standards to achieve long term health, safety and well-being.

Golnaz is a Sustainability Director at BDP, responsible for coordinating and driving design processes to deliver highly sustainable and regenerative architecture projects across the global practice. She plays a key role in driving the adoption of the Climate and Social Action Design Framework at BDP, which aims to accelerate the goal of achieving Whole Life Net Zero Carbon in all sectors.

Golnaz has helped to deliver numerous, complex low-carbon exemplar projects, by applying detailed research and innovation, while embracing a holistic approach to sustainability and whole-life design.

In her previous role at Stanton Williams, she led the studio’s sustainability and environmental design strategies; helping the practice to become one of the first architecture firms in the world to set Science Based Targets. Prior to that, she spent eight years at Foster + Partners, where she worked on award-winning, high-profile international projects, including the Bloomberg Headquarter in London and Apple Campus in Cupertino (California).

She is also a published academic author, international guest speaker and visiting lecturer. She taught design and construction courses at the University of Palermo in Italy. She was a member of IBIPSA-USA Research and Emerging Simulation Technology Committees, and she is currently the NLA expert panel member on Net Zero.

Wayne Bexton is the Director of Environment and Sustainability at Nottingham City Council and has worked in public sector energy and sustainability fields for over 15 years, having previously delivered sustainability advice in the private sector.

Wayne has been recognised as one of the top 500 influencers on environment and climate change, and is Chair of the D2N2 Low Carbon Board as well as being the Senior Responsible Officer for the Midlands Net Zero Hub.

Wayne has delivered numerous high profile, high value environmental projects and programmes for the public sector across the East Midlands, receiving industry recognition along the way including the National Lottery Awards Environment Category Winner, edie National Green Recovery 2021 and Local Authority of the Year 2020/2021.

Currently leading on Nottingham’s ambitious energy, sustainability, waste and carbon neutral delivery programme, which is recognized as the leading local authority response to the climate emergency in the UK.

Lee Purkiss is Specialist Online Products Trainer at BSI.  He has worked at BSI for 10 years, helping organisations to gain the maximum value from BSI’s Knowledge Solutions products

Recognised as one of SHP’s Most Influential Individuals in health and safety in 2021, Kate is BSI’s global health, safety and well-being expert, with over 20 years’ experience across all sectors, Kate uses her expertise to drive BSI’s global strategy for creating a safer, healthier, fairer, and more inclusive workplace.

From Regulator, to consultant to thought-leader, Kate uses her experience and knowledge as an ambassador for cultural change, that puts trust, engagement and well-being at the forefront, Kate inspires colleagues and stakeholders globally to make a difference. Kate has developed the first global training and certification programme for ISO 45003 on psychological and safety management and authored the best practice framework BSI’s Prioritizing People Model@.

David Bell is Director of Standards Policy at the British Standards Institution (BSI).  He heads a team responsible for BSI's input to the international and European standards bodies, ISO, IEC, CEN and CENELEC on technical and policy issues.  

In addition, David manages BSI's institutional relations with national and regional standards organizations, as well as relations with British industry, UK government and with key stakeholders, including consumer and public interest groups.  

An economist by training, with a diploma in management, David has been at BSI for over 20 years, overseeing a number of European and International standards issues and took over BSI's policy team in 2009.  David was appointed Director of Standards Policy in 2015.

Tim is Chief Operating Officer of Tech East, the digital tech cluster organisation for the East of England. He is a founding board member of the UK Tech Cluster Group member. Prior to returning to the East of England Tim held international general management, strategic marketing, and tech product roles at Thomson Reuters, Informa and RICS. He is a non-executive director of UEA’s Norwich Business School and a board member of the New Anglia LEP Cultural Board. He was educated at London Business School and Newcastle University.

Leading standards development for smart secure sustainable Communities, Digital & Transport innovations. Current projects include the national data and AI strategies, 5G infrastructure, digital twins, Future of Mobility, Connected Automated Mobility, Future of Flight, and zero emissions transport.

An industrial design engineer with over 20 years’ experience in BT and the digital sector, and over a decade as a leader in the public sector of sustainable transport, digital service transformation, and economic development.

This event contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 on ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing for all, Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth, Goal 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure, Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production, and Goal 13 on taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
