07 October 2026, Hong Kong, China: Neuron Digital has become the first smart technology company globally to achieve the new BSI Kitemark™ for Digital Twins, setting a benchmark for trusted digital twin capability and governance.
Neuron, a Hong Kong-based leader in AI and ontology-powered smart built asset management solutions, was formally presented with the certificate this week. Aligned with the Digital Twin - Maturity Model and Guidance for a Maturity Assessment standard (ISO/IEC 30186:2025), certification independently verifies the maturity of Neuron's live digital twins and the systems that govern them. It provides assurance to customers, asset owners, regulators and partners that Neuron's digital twin capabilities are secure, well governed and delivering user-centric designs with measurable, viable operational and business values.
The capability is rooted in Arup’s engineering practice and proven on live buildings. Its foundation is Neurontology, an in-house ontology that converges Large Language Model (LLM), semantic model, spatial data, and operational live data from building systems — so its autonomous twins answer recommendations, not render assets.
The achievement coincides with the launch of the BSI Kitemark™ for Digital Twins, the first certification scheme of its kind. Developed to meet growing demand for trusted, scalable and outcome-driven digital twin capabilities, the Kitemark provides independent assurance of both digital twin maturity and an organization's ability to deploy, govern and continually improve digital twin solutions.
Digital twins are transforming infrastructure, construction, real estate, energy, smart cities and other asset-intensive sectors, with data suggesting that digital twin technologies are expected to become a market worth more than US$125 billion in the coming years. By creating dynamic virtual representations of physical assets, systems and operations, organizations can improve decision-making, optimize performance, reduce costs and unlock innovation throughout the asset lifecycle.
In Hong Kong, digital twin adoption is being embedded into the city's smart infrastructure strategy, with the Government's territory-wide 3D Digital Map now covering more than 210,000 buildings and 5,000 infrastructure assets to support smart city applications and data-driven decision-making. The 2026 Policy Address has given this agenda fresh momentum, with the Government announcing plans to set up an “AI City Brain” integrated city management system, facilitating the development of a digital twin city.
Built on the ISO/IEC 30186 Digital Twin Maturity Model, and enhanced with requirements covering governance, competency, security, risk management and value realization, the BSI Kitemark™ is designed to address the risk of adoption outpacing maturity and help organizations build trust, demonstrate capability and show that their digital twin programmes are delivering sustainable value.
Auditors assessed Neuron's capabilities across purpose definition, use case delivery, governance, value realization, lifecycle management, security, risk management and continuous improvement.
As part of the certification process, Neuron will undergo annual surveillance assessments to confirm that the digital twins within scope, and their verified maturity levels, continue to be maintained and improved over time.
Alongside the BSI Kitemark™ for Digital Twins, Neuron will also be awarded certification to Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (ISO/IEC 42001) and the BSI BIM Software Kitemark™, reinforcing its commitment to trusted innovation, responsible AI governance and digital transformation excellence.
Andy Butterfield, Managing Director Built Environment, BSI, said:
"We congratulate the Neuron team on becoming the first organization globally to achieve BSI’s Digital Twin Kitemark™. This is a significant industry-first achievement and a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when innovation, data and new technology are underpinned by trusted governance and independent assurance.
"Digital twins have the potential to transform how organizations use data and AI to manage assets, infrastructure and operations, helping to deliver better outcomes for people, places and the planet. Neuron’s certification shines a light on the way forward: a pathway for others to follow to adopt digital twin technology with confidence, accelerate best practice globally and turn technological ambition into measurable impact.”
Shahm Barhom, Managing Director Product Certification, BSI, said:
"Neuron's achievement of the BSI Kitemark™ for Digital Twins and BIM Software, alongside certification to the AI Management Systems standard, marks a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey. These achievements demonstrate Neuron's commitment to delivering trusted, high-quality, and innovative digital solutions while embracing the responsible use of emerging technologies. We are proud to celebrate this success with Neuron and its stakeholders in Hong Kong."
Thomas Pang, Vice-Chair, Neuron Digital Group, said:
"Becoming the first smart technology company globally to achieve the BSI Kitemark™ for Digital Twins is a significant milestone for Neuron and our customers. As organizations increasingly rely on AI, digital twins and connected technologies to manage buildings and infrastructure, trust is becoming as important as innovation. These certifications reinforce our commitment to responsible AI, digital trust and delivering enterprise-grade solutions through engineering-based ontology that lets buildings speak a common language, and AI facilitate future operations. This helps customers improve performance, efficiency and sustainability with confidence. As a company based in Hong Kong, Neuron is primed to capture the city’s spirit and position as a leading centre for built environment innovations. Our ambition is to work closely with leading organisations to make this level of trust the norm for deployment of AI-driven systems for the built environment globally."
