The long-awaited Draft International Standard (DIS) for ISO 14001 has been released, signalling the first formal step in modernizing the world’s leading environmental management system (EMS) standard.
The DIS offers a first look at what changes have been proposed to the standard’s content ahead of publication, which is expected in 2026. This gives certified organizations the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming changes ahead of the official launch.

The ISO/DIS 14001 was published and the public commenting period for this has closed in preparation for the FDIS.
The ISO/FDIS 14001 is expected to be published in December 2025. At this stage all the technical requirements will be confirmed.
