BSI secures ANAB accreditation to certify ISO/IEC 42001

BSI is first globally to achieve triple accreditation from ANAB, UKAS and RvA for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS) standard

10 March 2026 – BSI has secured accreditation from the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), the Northern American body, to deliver certification services for ISO/IEC 42001, the world’s first international standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS). This is in addition to its accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and Raad voor Accreditatie (RvA) in the Netherlands, making it the first certification body globally to receive triple accreditation from these three accreditation bodies.

This achievement comes at a time of rapidly growing global demand for trusted, accredited AI audit and certification services and BSI’s most recent accreditation from ANAB will provide the US market and beyond with confidence that its certification is being delivered against rigorous international standards.

As AI continues to experience rapid global growth, recent research published by BSI highlights growing expectations: 62% of global business leaders expect to increase investment in AI over the next 12 months, and 59% view AI as essential to their organization’s future growth. Already, 26% of organizations report taking steps to align with ISO/IEC 42001 as they seek trusted, responsible approaches to AI.

Accreditation from ANAB confirms to regulators, stakeholders, and clients that BSI operates to the highest international standards of consistency, competence, and impartiality in AI certification. It enables organizations to work with an independently accredited certification body to demonstrate that their AI systems are developed, deployed, and managed ethically, transparently, and with robust governance.

Linda Moon, Director of Global Quality and Accreditation at BSI, said: “As AI becomes increasingly embedded within business and society, the need for robust governance, transparency, and trust has never been greater. Achieving ANAB accreditation for ISO/IEC 42001 is an important milestone for BSI and further strengthens our ability to support organizations both in the US and globally in demonstrating responsible AI practices.

“This accreditation builds on our existing accreditations from UKAS and RvA, reinforcing BSI’s role as a trusted partner for organizations seeking credible, internationally recognised AI management system certification. It reinforces BSI’s commitment to building trust and advancing good governance in emerging technologies worldwide.”

This accreditation is particularly relevant in major markets—including the United States, United Kingdom, China, Japan, the Netherlands, and Germany—where AI implementation is accelerating and organizations are seeking trusted, internationally recognized AI assurance.

ISO/IEC 42001 establishes a comprehensive framework for AI governance applicable to both developers of AI technologies and organizations embedding AI within their operations. The standard addresses ethical, organizational, and technical requirements and supports responsible innovation by helping organizations manage both the opportunities and risks associated with AI across its lifecycle.
