BSI and the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) have launched a new Sustainability Training Academy, strengthening the UK’s professional and executive education landscape with industry-relevant sustainability learning designed for today’s leaders, managers and practitioners. I wanted to follow up today to see if this information is of interest?

The new Academy responds to growing demand from employers and professionals for credible, structured sustainability education that bridges academic insight and real-world application. By combining CISL’s internationally recognized leadership education and systems thinking expertise with BSI’s authority in standards, assurance and management system training, the partnership aims to support skills development that translates directly into organizational practice.

Positioned within the UK’s wider focus on upskilling, lifelong learning and future-ready leadership, the Academy offers flexible, accessible courses designed to complement existing higher education and professional development pathways. Its programmes are intended to support individuals across sectors as they build the knowledge and confidence needed to embed sustainability into decision-making, operations and long-term strategy.

The Academy launches with two flagship courses:

    1. Business Sustainability Management

This online short course is designed for professionals seeking to develop applied sustainability capability alongside their existing roles. Learners gain contemporary knowledge and practical tools to integrate sustainable practices into organizational operations, while developing a structured action plan aligned to their professional context. The course addresses both public- and private-sector sustainability challenges, helping participants identify opportunities for impact and contribute to organisational change in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

    2. Sustainable Business Foundations

Aimed at building shared understanding across teams and organisations, this course provides an accessible introduction to global sustainability trends, risks and opportunities. It supports professional development by establishing core sustainability literacy, enabling more effective collaboration, innovation and leadership across disciplines and functions.

Susan Taylor Martin, Chief Executive, BSI, said: “We’re delighted to partner with the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership Training Academy. This collaboration unites two leading organisations committed to advancing sustainability through education and innovation. By combining our expertise, we can empower more organizations and individuals to take meaningful steps toward a sustainable future. We look forward to co creating new learning opportunities and sharing exciting developments in the months ahead.”

    Lindsay Hooper, CEO, CISL, said:

“At a moment when leaders are seeking clear pathways to tackle systemic challenges while building organizational resilience and long-term value, our partnership with BSI brings together complementary strengths in rigour, insight, standards, and practical application. Together, we aim to help organizations build the knowledge, capability and confidence needed to deliver credible and lasting outcomes that are good for organizations - and for the social and environmental foundations on which they depend.”
