Invennt earns UK’s first BSI Kitemark for Innovation Management to BS 56001

December 2 —Specialist management and tax consultant Invennt has become the first organization in the UK to achieve certification to the BSI Kitemark for Innovation Management, based on the newly released standard, Innovation management system. Requirements (BS EN ISO 56001:2024). This achievement demonstrates that the business has a solid, structured approach to innovation which delivers measurable results.

The Kitemark, which is aligned to the recent, auditable standard, EN ISO 56001:2024, is a key component of the BS ISO 56000 series, providing organizations of all sizes, from private enterprises and public bodies to supply chains, innovation centres and universities. It also provides a robust framework for organizations to systematically build and strengthen their innovation capabilities.

The standard supports organizations in embedding effective innovation practices that enhance competitiveness, reduce risk and drive sustainable growth, while also acting as a bridge between existing management system standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Invennt originally achieved the BSI Kitemark for Innovation Management in November 2022, when the scheme was based on the guidance standard ISO 56002. Following the release of the new standard, BSI undertook a full review of the Kitemark programme to ensure it reflected the updated requirements and the latest good practice in structured, measurable innovation. As part of this transition, the scheme was enhanced with new test measures that take the Kitemark beyond basic compliance, providing a more robust and comprehensive assessment of an organization’s innovation capabilities.

Shahm Barhom, Group Product Certification Director at BSI, said: “The new standard sets a rigorous benchmark for building structured, effective and sustainable innovation capabilities, and Invennt’s achievement demonstrates a clear commitment to embedding innovation across their business.

“As we transitioned the Kitemark programme to align with BS EN ISO 56001, Invennt demonstrated strong leadership and readiness to meet the enhanced requirements. Their certification reflects international best practice in innovation management and highlights the value that a well-designed innovation system can deliver in driving competitiveness, reducing risk and supporting long-term growth.”

Cameron Foley, Director and COO at Invennt, said “We, at Invennt, are very proud to be the first company in the UK to be certified to the new BS EN ISO 56001:2024 standard. We established a change management and risk framework for each initiative, embedded culture measurement and knowledge management (including learning from failures) and aligned innovation processes with existing ISO systems. This gave BSI clear, evidence based assurance of our structured, measurable approach to innovation. My thanks go to BSI for guiding us through the new process.”
