    The People

Committed to running sustainable world-class events

Over 400 years old, the Goodwood estate is famous the world over for flagship sporting events held at its racecourse, motor circuit and park.

Since first achieving BSI certification in Sustainable Events Management, the Goodwood event teams have continued to develop the estate’s management system to drive sustainability across its events, including Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival.

    The Challenge

Preserving and enhancing Goodwood and its events for generations to come

With authenticity a core value, every decision needs to ensure that the beauty and traditions of this iconic location remain intact. The organization’s flagship events are also steeped in history.

But Goodwood also needed to look forwards. It faced a growing expectation from visitors and partners to operate the events as sustainably as possible. This presented it with a key challenge: how to run prestigious events that preserved their character and heritage, while also meeting today’s demanding ‘green’ goals.

    The Solution

Using standards to support a maturing sustainability strategy

Since first achieving the Sustainable Events Management standard, Goodwood has overhauled its system and processes to ensure continued compliance.

In complying with the standard, Goodwood ensures it has robust processes in place to drive improvement. These range from maintaining the commitment of senior leadership to assigning responsibilities across its event teams, as well as engaging proactively with key suppliers, including those for cleaning, food, waste management and energy.

    The Benefits

Continued compliance with the Sustainable Events Management standard is helping Goodwood to:
