    Comast delivers high-risk construction services nationwide

    Operating multiple high-risk sites, Comast manages complex activities including working at height, machinery and hazardous materials.

    The Challenge

    Inconsistent processes and non-accredited schemes limited oversight and tender competitiveness.

    Managing high-risk activities across sites required a recognised framework to improve consistency and meet evolving client expectations.

    Health and safety processes varied across projects, making consistent oversight challenging. Comast previously operated under a non-UKAS-accredited third-party scheme, which no longer satisfied growing client and tender requirements. As the company expanded, it needed a single, recognised framework to standardise practices, strengthen leadership accountability and maintain its position within key client supply chains while effectively managing high-risk activities.

    A UKAS-accredited framework introduced consistent processes, proactive risk management and greater workforce participation.

    By implementing ISO 45001, Comast established a structured, UKAS-accredited framework for managing occupational health and safety. The standard introduced consistent processes across all sites and reinforced clear leadership accountability. A proactive, risk-based approach shifted focus toward prevention, improving reporting and workforce participation. Health and safety became embedded into daily operations, strengthening oversight and supporting safer performance across projects.
