How Borras Construction strengthened risk management and built client confidence through ISO 45001 certification with BSI.
“ISO 45001 isn’t about reinventing the wheel. It’s about identifying the gaps and embedding the standard into how you already operate.”
Borras works in complex environments where strong health, safety and wellbeing management is critical to safe project delivery.
Health and safety was previously managed in line with HSG65, providing a strong operational framework. However, without independent third-party certification, the board wanted greater external validation that risks were being effectively managed across projects. As procurement frameworks and compliance schemes became more prominent, demonstrating credible and consistent safety management became increasingly important for maintaining client trust and competitiveness.
Borras adopted ISO 45001 as a structured and internationally recognised framework for managing occupational health and safety. The standard aligned closely with its existing ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 systems, supporting an integrated management approach. Certification through BSI provided independent assurance that processes were not only documented but effectively implemented on site through rigorous, construction-focused audits that assessed real operational practices.

Borras selected BSI for its credibility, construction expertise and robust audit approach. Integrated audits across ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 reduced disruption while strengthening governance and assurance.
