The Internet of Things opportunity
The Internet of Things (IoT) combines and analyses data from connected “things” to drive efficiency, improvement and innovation. Ultimately the IoT could deliver £ trillions in value.
However, the market is being held back by a lack of widely accepted best practice and standards. We’re creating an inclusive community to tackle this challenge and accelerate adoption.
The Internet of Things has endless applications, from predictive maintenance of equipment to dynamic traffic management, improving air quality and remote health services. The IoT community will agree on the priority industry challenges to address, related to areas such as the built environment, smart infrastructure, transport and mobility, health and social care as well as security and privacy.
BSI in IoT and smart infrastructure
BSI has a long-established role in convening common-interest groups to create and promote best practice. We worked with industry to create PAS 212 for IoT data discovery, and we’re active in fast growing areas like medical devices.
BSI has also developed a wide range of frameworks and specifications across smart cities, infrastructure and the built environment . This includes our series of Building Information Modelling (BIM) specifications which are being adopted across the globe.
