First Capital Connect secures ISO 14001 environmental certification for entire company

First Capital Connect has been awarded certification to the environmental management system (EMS) standard ISO 14001 and is one of the first UK train operating company to secure certification for the entire organization.
First Capital Connect had a commitment to achieve the standard within the first two years of its franchise and subsequently set up a dedicated environmental team; rolled out a detailed three-year environmental plan; implemented an ISO 14001 compliant EMS policy manual, procedures, reporting forms and audit plan; as well as training staff on new procedures and how they could make a difference to the environmental impact of the company.
Assessment was carried out my BSI Management Systems UK who audited the implementation of the EMS throughout the company; environmental performance; waste management; and environmental complaint and incident reporting processes at a number of First Capital Connect locations. This was to ensure the company's environmental policies and procedures were in place and that staff were environmentally aware.
Elaine Holt, Managing Director said: "I am delighted we have achieved the ISO 14001 standard. We have a commitment to our customers and the communities we serve to reduce our environmental impact through effective environmental management and continuous improvement."
Katherine Lewton, Head of Service Quality and Environment said: "Achieving this standard shows that we have the right processes in place to be a responsible neighbour and community partner."
