Geoff is President of the British Electrotechnical Committee (BEC), the National Committee responsible for representing the interests of the UK electrotechnical sector in both IEC and CENELEC. He has served as the UK member of the IEC Council Board, its management body, and as the UK member of the IEC Standardisation Management Board (SMB), responsible for the management of international electrotechnical standards. He retired as Chief Executive of GAMBICA, the Trade Association for Instrumentation, Control, Automation and Laboratory Technology at the end of 2010 having held a number of external appointments relevant to the industry, including the Government's Measurement Advisory Committee (MAC) and more recently, its successor, the BIS Measurement Board. In Europe, he represented the UK within ORGALIME, the European Engineering Industries Association and was Chairman of ORGALIME's Electrical and Electronic Sector and a member of the Board of Directors. Geoff has travelled extensively in support of UK exports in the instrumentation and control sector and his industrial experience was gained with EMI Electronics in the area of light sensing devices.
