2-Hour Asbestos Awareness - for Workers
Our Asbestos Awareness courses are custom designed to address Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM) in your buildings, as per US EPA, OSHA, NYS and NYC DEP regulations. The required annual two-hour Awareness Training will discuss recognizing damaged and deteriorated ACM. This course also requires that employees be made aware of the locations and quantities of asbestos materials in the building and the Asbestos Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Program for the facility.
8-Hour Asbestos Awareness - for Managers and Safety Professionals
This training is for managers and safety professionals involved in oversight of tasks where ACM may be accidentally disturbed. Awareness Training is in accordance with OSHA general industry (29 CFR § 1910.1001) and construction industry (29 CFR § 1926.1101) standards and may include such topics as:
- Background information on asbestos
- Health effects of asbestos
- Worker protection programs
- Locations of ACM and Presumed Asbestos-Containing Material (PACM) in the building/facility
- Recognition of ACM and PACM damage and deterioration
- The O&M program for that building/facility
- Proper response to fiber release episodes.
At the end of this class, you will receive an Asbestos Awareness certificate of completion.
Annual refreshers are required to maintain certification.
Asbestos Competent Person

Competent Person has to have the ability to perform stated duties outlined by OSHA 29CFR 1926 definition "competent person". In addition, Competent Person has to have the authority to take the necessary actions, including stop work authorization, correct hazardous conditions or activities identified under their work/contract scope and limited to work under their care, custody and control in applicable areas of OSHA 29CFR Part 1926 with Amendments as of January 2011.
For OSHA Asbestos Classes I and II, the competent person must be trained in all aspects of asbestos removal and handling. The training must be obtained in a comprehensive course for supervisors and must meet the criteria of the EPA Model Accreditation Plan - 40-hr Contractor/Supervisor Initial course.
For OSHA Asbestos Classes III and IV training must include the successful completion of a 16-hr asbestos Operation and Maintenance course.
Operations and Maintenance (O&M)
This program is for operations and maintenance (O and M) workers who work on minor asbestos projects but do not work on small asbestos projects or large asbestos projects. It is intended for all operations and maintenance staff of an employer who perform minor asbestos projects on the premises of that employer.
Please be reminded to complete refresher training annually before your DOH-2832 training certificate (white form) expires:
