4-Hr Respirable Silica Competent Person
This 4-hour training program is designed to help companies comply with the OSHA Respirable Silica Standard. A key requirement of the standard is for each employer to designate a Respirable Silica Competent Person. The goal of this training class is to provide individuals serving as the Competent Person for their company with the necessary technical skills and capabilities to be successful in this role and assist their employer in complying with the standard. The information includes (but is not limited to):
· Silica: History, Definition, Sources and Types
· Silica Health Effects
· Requirements of the OSHA Standard
· Responsibilities of the Competent Person
· Assessing Tasks and Activities in regard to Silica Exposure
· Permissible Exposure Limits and Action Levels
· Compliance Approaches and Strategies
· Industrial Hygiene Sampling and Assessments
· AIHA Guidance for Respirable Silica Competent Persons White Paper
Upon completion of the class, the student will be prepared to address the technical aspects of the competent person role. The employer is responsible for providing the Competent Person with the authority to address concerns and take effective actions in the work place. This technical knowledge, combined with the authority to take corrective action meets OSHA’s definition of a Competent Person.
