BSI certifies NUWAVE as first US-based company to ISO 42001

June 23, 2026 - NUWAVE Communications, a leading global provider of Unified Communications and Cloud Calling automation solutions, has become the first company and one of the first UC providers to be certified to a global standard designed to empower safe management of AI and build trust to enable its secure and responsible use of AI across society.

Following a comprehensive audit by BSI, the business improvement and standards company, NUWAVE is the first US-based company to achieve ISO/IEC 42001 certification, and the first Information and Communications Technology (ICT) company in the US to be certified by BSI to the standard, marking a significant milestone in advancing responsible AI governance across the sector company.

NUWAVE Communications was formally awarded the certificate at a presentation ceremony held at BSI’s new US headquarters at Reston on May 21st, 2026.

The globally applicable ISO/IEC 42001 standard supports organizations in the responsible deployment of AI, addressing key considerations such as non‑transparent automated decision‑making, the use of machine learning in place of human‑coded logic, and the need for continuous learning.

The AIMS standard outlines how to establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve an AI management system, with a strong focus on safeguards. As an impact‑based framework, it sets out requirements for context‑based AI risk assessments and details risk treatments and controls covering both internal and external AI products and services. It also supports organizations in fostering a quality‑centric culture and in responsibly shaping the design, development and delivery of AI‑enabled products and services that benefit both the organization and wider society.

Omkar Joshi, Managing Director, AI & Digital Solutions, BSI said: “AI has the potential to be a significant force for good in society, transforming lives everywhere. However, to realize these benefits, having the right guardrails in place for the safe and ethical use of AI is critical. Certification to ISO/IEC 42001 provides reassurance to stakeholders that AI is being used safely and responsibly, helping organizations build trust while accelerating progress towards a sustainable future.”

“NUWAVE Communication’s achievement demonstrates how innovation and robust governance can progress together. BSI is proud to support organizations in strengthening trust, resilience and accountability through responsible AI adoption.”

Mark Bunnell, COO, NUWAVE Communications, said: "AI is rapidly transforming how organizations operate, but innovation without governance introduces significant risk. Achieving ISO/IEC 42001 demonstrates NUWAVE's commitment to responsible AI adoption, strong security practices, and operational accountability. For our partners and customers, this certification provides
confidence that AI-enabled solutions delivered through iPILOT are built on a foundation of transparency, risk management, and continuous improvement. As organizations increasingly evaluate vendors based on security, compliance, and AI governance, this milestone reinforces our ability to help partners grow while meeting the highest standards of trust and responsibility."
