April 16, 2026: Professional services company BSI has today announced the opening of its new North American headquarters in Reston, Virginia, marking a major milestone in its operations across the United States and the wider Americas region. The move signals a strategic expansion of BSI’s footprint in the United States, designed to provide deeper localized expertise and support for clients navigating a complex global marketplace. The opening coincides with BSI’s 125th anniversary, celebrating more than a century of improving quality, safety, and performance for the public good. Today BSI provides training, assurance, certification and consultancy services worldwide, covering a broad range of industries and working with over 77,000 clients globally.
The new headquarters underscores BSI’s continued commitment to its clients across the Americas to help businesses build resilience, drive innovation, and meet evolving regulatory and societal expectations.
Founded in 1901, BSI has played a foundational role in shaping the modern world. Today, with standards estimated to support approximately 80% of global trade, BSI has evolved its 125-year heritage into a business that helps drive organizational excellence. By using these trusted frameworks as a foundation, BSI has developed a comprehensive ecosystem of consulting and assurance services, that move beyond compliance to deliver measurable value. This evolution allows businesses to translate the "what" of global standards into the "how" of daily operations, focusing on three critical pillars; increasing business performance; managing risk; and measuring impact – focused on making a fairer society and a sustainable world.
The opening was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Opportunity Way office in Reston, Virginia, bringing together employees, partners, government officials and local stakeholders to commemorate the occasion.
The office opening follows the appointment of Jennifer Burns as Chief Commercial Officer, and Tim Wren as the President of its Consulting Division in 2025, further strengthening BSI’s leadership team and its strategic focus on growth and customer impact across key global markets, including North America.
Jennifer Burns, Chief Commercial Officer, BSI said: "Our clients are at the center of this expansion. The North American market is of great strategic importance to us, and our new Reston headquarters ensures we are well positioned to help our clients turn today’s challenges into long-term competitive advantage. As we celebrate 125 years, we aren’t just looking back at our history in standards, we are looking forward to a future of leveraging our unique impartiality as a standards body to support organizations driving the global economy, working together to navigate immediate complexities and long-term challenges.
Tim Wren, President, Consulting Services BSI, said: “Our new Reston headquarters serves as a critical bridge between BSI’s 125-year heritage and the hands-on technical agility our clients and broader stakeholder groups require today. Our business is anchored in a commitment to long-term organizational resilience, ensuring our guidance is driven by sustainable impact with measurable outcomes. This allows us to work directly with organizations to support their immediate operational hurdles while aligning their growth with a broader mission for a fairer society and a sustainable world.”
BSI is a global professional services company, providing training, assurance, certification and consultancy services worldwide. We partner with more than 77,500 clients globally to make the world safer, more secure and more sustainable by building trust in the things that matter most.
In the UK, BSI is appointed by Government as the National Standards Body. In this remit we play a vital role in shaping best practice across a range of industries. Our 14,000 committee members contribute to standards that underpin more than 80% of global trade and help organizations not only access new markets but also accelerate innovation.
For 125 years, we have helped turn good intentions into reliable outcomes that have a positive impact, guided by a simple belief: progress only works when it is safe, consistent and credible. From standardizing steel beams in 1901 to protecting society with helmet safety standards or leading the way in AI, net zero, and the next generation of global best practice – BSI works across society and industry to improve performance, reduce risk and drive sustainable growth.
Standards are voluntary, practical tools that capture shared best practice and provide a common language. BSI develops standards through collaboration and consensus, bringing together unmatched expertise across industry, government, consumers and academia. We then help organizations adopt, embed and demonstrate best practice through assurance, certification, training and insight — turning shared agreement into measurable impact. While we operate commercially, we are purpose-driven: reinvesting in our mission to serve the public good.
As BSI marks its 125th year, we continue to evolve what we do to keep pace with emerging technologies, new risks and changing societal expectations.
