NYC DOB 40-hour Site Safety Manager Course
The 40-hr curriculum covers the 2014 NYC Building Codes, including the requisite review of the updated Chapter 33 “SAFEGUARDS DURING CONSTRUCTION OR DEMOLITION”, as well as current Federal and State regulatory standards and applicable local laws to ensure compliance and safe work practices in construction. This course is also required for the qualified and experienced construction industry personnel applying for the Site Safety Manager license or registering with the NYC DOB as a Certified Site Safety Coordinator or Registered Construction Superintendent. In addition, New York City Building Department is proposing a rule, requiring a “Written Designation of a Competent Person”; one of the qualifications will be that a designated competent person “…satisfactorily completed a site safety manager training course that is least 40 hours in length and is approved by the department”.
NYC DOB 8-Hour Site Safety Manager Refresher
This training course is the refresher for the individuals renewing their NYC DOB certifications as the Safety Managers (every 3 years) and Site Safety Coordinators (every year).
NYC DOB 8-Hour Site Safety Coordinator Course
This condensed version of the 40-hr Site Safety Manager course is a prerequisite for the new Site Safety Coordinator Certification and Construction Superintendent Registration with the NYC Building Department. In addition, as per amended NYC Rules of 2016, this course will be required for the Construction Superintendent Registration Renewal (every 3 years).

4-hour Supported Scaffold User & Refresher Course
Individuals who use a supported scaffold (regardless of the height of the scaffold), including the person supervising such, shall, at a minimum, have completed a NYC DOB 4-hour training program and, every four years thereafter, retake the 4 -hour training course in accordance with Chapter 33 of the new 2014 NYC DOB Building Code, Local Law No. 52 of 2005, Local Law 24 of 2008 and OSHA. This program includes instruction on the nature of electrical hazards, fall and falling object hazards, material handling on scaffolds, and the maximum intended load and load-handling capacities of scaffold.
32-Hour Supported Scaffold Installer & Remover
Workers who install, adjust, repair, maintain, inspect, or remove a supported scaffold that is 40 feet or more in height, including the person supervising such, shall complete a NYCDOB-approved 32-hr training course and shall complete a department-approved 8-hour refresher program every 4 years thereafter. This training requirement also applies to workers who install, adjust, repair, maintain, or remove a sidewalk shed that provides a base for a supported scaffold that is 40 feet or more in height, including the person supervising such.

4-Hour Mast Climber User and Operator
As per NYC DOB §3314-01 Mast-climbing work platforms (mast climbers). (m) Training shall be required for all individuals who install, remove, use, or operate a mast climber. (1) Installation or removal. Beginning July 1, 2012, individuals who install or remove a mast climber, including the person supervising such individuals, shall have completed manufacturer provided training for the installation and removal of the specific make and model of the mast climber. (2) Operation or use. Beginning July 1, 2012, individuals who operate or use a mast climber, including the person supervising such individuals, shall have completed a department-approved training course that is at least four (4) hours long, and a department-approved four (4) hour refresher course every (4) years thereafter that covers areas including, but not limited to, mast climber use and operation, hazards associated with such work, pre-use inspections, start up and shut down procedures, emergency descent procedures, fall protection, mast climber stability and balance, and storage of materials on a mast climber. (3) Examinations. Successful completion of a four (4) hour mast climber training or refresher course required by paragraph (2) of this subdivision (m) shall be dependent upon passing a written examination conducted by the training provider. (7) Identification cards. Upon successful completion of a mast climber training or refresher course required by paragraphs (1) or (2) of this subdivision (m), the individual shall be issued a wallet size identification card acceptable to the department.
