Remediation Project Management
BSI provides remediation project management services for a large Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) sediment sites. We developed a cost-effective project strategy, which included the assessment and presentation of site conditions to our client, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders. The site consists of multiple units, some led by the USEPA and some by the State regulatory agency. BSI has managed multiple investigations, risk assessments, storm water projects, remedial actions and allocation related activities. We identified and managed experts required to construct a comprehensive conceptual site model within a multi-source, historically complicated operational and physical environment. BSI also developed or implemented project management systems such as document management, site and safety activities, and long-term cost and financial review. The site management strategy has provided a comprehensive approach to the site description, efficiencies in site and regulatory needs and legal approach resulting in an integrated project and reduced costs.
Value Added: No safety incidents; coordinated with multiple properties and agencies; developed project and site strategy as well as multiple management systems, including one for long term cost and financial review.
BSI provided remediation project management services at a RCRA Corrective Action decommissioned chemical manufacturing site in the northeast US. BSI worked closely with the client to manage the RCRA Corrective Action process throughout the site investigation, corrective measures study, and remedial action phases of this project. The remedial action included construction of a hydraulic barrier wall for groundwater control, in-situ thermal desorption to remediate DNAPL in overburden soils, dredging of river sediments, extensive site capping, and ecological restoration, including constructed wetlands and other ecological habitat. BSI’s responsibilities included the management of environmental compliance activities, such as NPDES and storm water permitting, SPCC and RCRA contingency plans, and waste management. BSI coordinated agency and other stakeholders and managed the various technical consultants. In addition, BSI is managing the Operation and Maintenance contractor for the groundwater treatment plant, including optimization strategies.
Value Added: No safety incidents; coordinated with multiple stakeholders; cost savings recognized from remedial system audits; reuse of brownfields property for ecological preserve and light industry.
BSI delivered procurement support services for remedial projects at a manufacturing facility in Hungary. Our client identified BSI as a partner to support the remedial design and implementation to address soil and groundwater contamination. The local regulatory authorities desired that a remedial plan be put in place to address the contamination at the site, which was particularly complex due to impacts identified in multiple aquifer zones threatening nearby potable wells. BSI worked with our client and their procurement and local technical teams to develop procurement documents and managed the procurement process. The procurement process identified innovative and cost-effective remedial designs.
Value Added: Provided our client significant cost savings by first understanding the site issues and then working closely with our client throughout the procurement process to identify highly qualified technical consultants to work with on the project.
