What’s this Built Environment Committees webinar about?

Have you ever wanted to understand how standards come about and how you can influence their contents?

This session will provide an overview of the BSI committee structure in the built environment and fire sectors, how standards are produced and explain how stakeholders can get involved with standards development.

Who should attend the Built Environment Committees webinar?

This webinar will be relevant to professional bodies, trade associations and professionals working in the built environment (BE) and fire sectors. It will also be entirely relevant to other subject areas/sectors but the theme is on BE and fire.

• A better understanding of BSI Knowledge Solutions, the different types of standard products, how they’re created and by whom
• How to become involved in standards; from commenting on drafts to joining a committee
• A rundown of the built environment and fire standards currently in development

Ian Richardson, BSI Built Environment Sector Lead

Ian is an experienced standards professional, having worked at BSI for over 18 years. Currently working as Sector Lead in the Built Environment area of BSI Knowledge Solutions, he has specific responsibility for the direction and development of key standards areas related to Building Safety, Quality, and Health & Safety, working with industry and government to identify and develop associated knowledge solutions.

Ian has also worked on multiple high-profile projects during his career at BSI, including many of the key management systems standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 27001 and ISO 45001.

Kara has worked in academic and professional publishing for nearly 20 years, focussing on construction, health and safety publications. She joined BSI in 2014, responsible for the oversight of standards for the built environment sector, specifically Eurocodes, digital construction and construction products. 

Simon joined BSI in 2020, having previously worked in publishing, where he specialised in information for professionals in engineering and the law. He is responsible for the development of fire standards as well as standards in a variety of areas of the built environment, in particular construction equipment, construction materials and sustainable construction.

This event contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 on good health and well-being, Goal 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure, Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities, Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production and Goal 13 on climate action.
