Lighting

Whether you specialise in general, automotive, back, sign, or medical lighting, the industry continues to change and grow exponentially. It is estimated that by 2020 the general lighting and automotive lighting markets will be worth 83 and 18 billion EUR respectively. In order to stay competitive, organizations will have to deploy new strategies to help them stand out from the competition and deliver products that are highly efficient and safe to use.

Standards

Standards affect all of us, every day of our lives. Whenever we use a product or service, there's a good chance there's a standard to cover it, whether we're using a washing machine, mobile phone, driving a car, or eating in a restaurant. Put simply, standards make products and services:

  • Safer – e.g. by setting minimum standards for electrical appliances for example
  • Better quality – e.g. by setting out how companies can produce clearer, simpler and more accurate bills
  • Easier to use – by establishing rules for product design, so that for example elderly and disabled people can use them

Standards can help your organization to work in a better and smarter way, to improve your efficiency and be more innovative.

ENEC

BSI is a founding signatory to the ENEC (European Certification Scheme for lighting) agreement and can issue the ENEC mark on behalf of CENELEC in the UK. The mark is applicable for electro technology products such as lighting fittings and their components, capacitors, mains connector and cord sets. The procedure for obtaining the ENEC mark is similar to that for obtaining the Kitemark™ and offers many of the same benefits.

As a certification body, BSI tests the electrical safety and performance, where applicable, in accordance with the relevant European Norms, and will only grant the ENEC certification mark when it has been established that there is compliance with the relevant ENs.

CE Marking

CE MarkingCE marking allows you to legally market and distribute your product within the European Market, and declares that your product complies with all applicable European Directives and Regulations.

BSI as a Notified Body, can help you gain access into the European market by ensuring your products meet all CE marking requirements. As an NB for many EU Directives and Regulations, we will work in partnership with you, helping you to understand and comply to the essential requirements, enabling you to confidently and legally affix CE marking to your products.

Testing

Direct Testing

As well as testing your products for CE marking and Kitemark™, we can provide testing services before and after you receive your certification, or even when no standard already exists.

If you're in the process of getting new products to market, we can help prove your innovation, and get your products to where you want them to be more quickly. Talking to us early in the process can give you confidence that everything you need to consider is covered.

Verification Testing

Self-declaration endorsed by BSI can offer your customers increased levels of confidence in your products. We can review all your technical information including test data, technical files and reports, and issue a Verification Certificate to you.

This will help you to meet the requirements of bids and tenders, potentially where it was more difficult for you to do so, and differentiate your products in the market place. We'll give you the independent overview that you need, and you'll be able to use your verification certificate to support procurement specifications.

If no standard exists in the market place, or if you are looking to give additional reassurance of the performance of your product, verification gives you peace of mind. It gives you independent confirmation that your products do meet the high levels of performance.

© The British Standards Institution (current year)

Impartiality is the governing principle of how BSI provides its services. Impartiality means acting fairly and equitably in its dealings with people and in all business operations. It means decisions are made free from any engagements of influences which could affect the objectivity of decision making.

As an accredited certification body, BSI Assurance cannot offer certification to clients where they have also received consultancy from another part of the BSI Group for the same management system. Likewise, we do not offer consultancy to clients when they also seek certification to the same management system.

The British Standards Institution (BSI, a company incorporated by Royal Charter), performs the National Standards Body (NSB) activity in the UK. BSI, together with its Group Companies, also offers a broad portfolio of business solutions other than NSB activity that help businesses worldwide to improve results through Standards-based best practice (such as certification, self-assessment tool, software, product testing, information products and training).
