Skills and opportunities
Susan Taylor Martin joined the Board and was appointed Chief Executive in January 2021. Susan has led a range of information, publishing and software businesses, first at Reuters and then at Thomson Reuters. Most recently, as President of its Global Legal Business based in New York, she led the transformation of its online information service into an AI-enabled suite of digital and SaaS offerings. She has experience of the consumer, leisure and hospitality sector having been a Non-Executive Director of Whitbread PLC. She also possesses a strong network across a wide range of businesses, as former Chair of the London Council of the Confederation of British Industry.

Dr Scott Steedman CBE

Dr Scott Steedman CBE

Director, Standards

Scott Steedman joined the Group in January 2012 and was appointed to the Board in October 2012. An engineer by background, he started his career at the University of Cambridge before moving to industry where he spent over 20 years as a consultant working in the built environment sector. He was a Non-Executive Board Member of the Port of London Authority from 2009 to 2015. Served as Vice-President (Policy), for the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) from 2013 to 2017 and for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) from 2017 to 2021.


Shirley Bailey-Wood

Director, BSI Information Solutions

Shirley Bailey-Wood was appointed as Director, BSI Information Solutions for BSI Standards in December 2014, having been BSI’s Director of Publishing since 2011.  Shirley is responsible for the leadership and strategic development of BSI Standards Limited.  Shirley joined BSI in 2004 as Operations Director for the Standards Division, with responsibility for the Standards Development teams including the standards portfolio and its development and the business operations supporting it. Shirley has extensive experience of the publishing and information sector, with previous positions as the Executive VP for the Life Science and Chemistry Division of Thomson Scientific; European Sales and Marketing Director for Maxwell Communications (The Thomson Corporation) and Information Scientist at the Glaxo Group.  Shirley was awarded an MBE in 2012 for Services to the Knowledge Economy. She was elected to the Council of Trustees of the Consumers Association in January 2016.


Pietro Foschi

Group Assurance Director

Pietro Foschi is in charge of the BSI Assurance Services, including Management System Certification, Product Certification and Training global businesses, operating in over 190 countries. He joined BSI in 2014 as Strategic Delivery Director, responsible for the BSI’s strategic plan and the development of the global Systems Certification & Training streams. Before joining BSI, Pietro spent 14 years at Bureau Veritas in senior strategic and international operational roles. Prior to that he worked at Oliver Wyman, formerly Mercer Management Consulting, becoming a partner in their Paris office.


Dr Manuela Gazzard

Manuela was appointed in July 2018, having joined BSI in April 2017 to head up its healthcare sector strategy as Managing Director of Healthcare. Manuela has over twenty years of leadership experience in the global life sciences sector including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotech, and other related fields. Her extensive experience includes positions as Managing Director, NovaPrep and Lab Services at Novacyt; Group Commercial Director, Johnson Matthey/Macfarlan Smith; and Director positions at Johnson & Johnson/Janssen and Boehringer Ingelheim. Manuela worked internationally in cancer research prior to her corporate career.


Harold Pradal

Chief Commercial Officer

Harold was appointed in February 2019, having been leading P&Ls and growth initiatives across various geographies and business units for the previous two decades, at country and regional levels. Harold started his career in sales and marketing with GE Healthcare, before joining International SOS where he undertook a variety of senior leadership roles, including Regional Managing Director for Asia. Harold brings deep experience of the Asia Pacific region alongside his sales, marketing and commercial leadership expertise.



Alison Sharp

Alison was appointed in April 2020. She has had extensive HR and leadership experience within complex listed global businesses in APAC, EMEA and North America such as Experian plc, Orica Limited, Rolls Royce plc, BAe Systems, Cabot Inc and Brambles Limited. She brings direct experience of many of our key sectors spanning Aerospace, Specialty Chemicals, Manufacturing, Energy and latterly Data and information services where digital skills are a key feature. 


Darryl Salmons

Darryl Salmons

Chief Information Officer

Darryl was appointed in April 2020. He brings extensive experience of digital transformation where data and technology combine to deliver strategic business advantage. Darryl has held a number of CIO roles within global businesses, most recently as Group CIO for DS Smith plc, a global FTSE100 packaging manufacturer and a leader in sustainability. Darryl brings extensive IT and leadership experience from his time at Amey Group, De La Rue, and the Financial Services Authority.


Sara Dickinson

Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director

Sara was appointed and joined the Board in January 2022. Sara has over 25 years of financial experience as well as significant knowledge of scaling B2B businesses and digital transformation, most recently as Senior Vice President of Finance responsible for corporate finance functions at Expedia Group Inc, a global travel tech company, and as Chief Finance Officer of Expedia Partner Solutions, the worldwide B2B division within Expedia for four years prior to this. Sara has undertaken numerous finance roles including Commercial Finance & FP&A Director at Costa Coffee, Group Financial Controller for Sage Group PLC and Vice President and European CFO of Orbitz WorldWide Inc.

Magdalena Duke

General Counsel

Magdalena was appointed General Counsel in January 2022, having worked within the BSI legal function since 2017, primarily as Legal Director for Group & Knowledge Solutions. Magdalena commenced her career as a financial broadcast journalist with the BBC, producing and outputting news for programmes including BBC Breakfast, BBC World, the News Channel and Radio 4’s Today programme.

Prior to joining BSI, Magdalena was head of Legal at the Pinewood Studios Group with a particular specialism in media, IP and film finance.

Sergio Nogueira

Interim Group Director Consulting Services

Sergio joined the team 18 July 2021 in an interim capacity whilst the search for a permanent appointment is completed.  He has over 30 years professional services experience spanning roles with IBM as Executive Partner, DXC Technology as Senior Managing Partner, Infosys Consulting as Senior Partner and Accenture as a Partner. Sergio is based in the UK, although he has worked in a wide variety of countries including the UK, South Africa, Israel, Germany, Switzerland, Chile, the USA, Finland, and Singapore

Anne joined BSI in 2001 following an extensive career in Publishing and stepped up in an interim capacity on 1st June 2021 from her substantive role as Director of Sectors within the Knowledge Solutions division whilst the search for a permanent appointment is concluded. She has significant experience of BSI, the Knowledge division and standards development.

Jonathan Chocqueel-Mangan

Jonathan Chocqueel-Mangan

Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer

Jonathan was appointed in January 2022. He brings a wealth of experience from global FTSE 100 companies, including WPP and Pearson where he defined and implemented strategies that put clients at the heart of the business and harnessed the potential of digital technology and data. Jonathan started his career in aerospace engineering, before moving to consulting at Heidrick & Struggles and KPMG. He founded an award-winning advisory firm, Tyler Mangan, before moving into corporate leadership roles.
