NIST Cybersecurity Framework

The National Institute of Technology (NIST) created the Cyber Security Framework (CSF), a voluntary framework to provide organizations with guidance on how to prevent, detect, and respond to cyberattacks. It consists of standards, guidelines, and best practices to manage cybersecurity-related risk. Quickly becoming a globally recognized assessment, the framework provides a harmonized approach to cybersecurity.

Recognizing the national and economic security of the United States depends on the reliable function of critical infrastructure, Executive Order (EO) 13636, Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity, was issued in February 2013. In response to the Presidential Policy Directive, NIST brought together leading experts in information security, including BSI representatives, and developed the NCSF. The Cybersecurity Framework’s prioritized, flexible and cost-effective approach helps promote the protection and resilience of critical infrastructure and other sectors vital to public health, the US economy and the security of the country.
