Many retailers, major manufacturers and food service companies around the world support the use of the BRCGS Global Standard for Storage and Distribution, and accept it as part of their supplier approval process.

The BRCGS Storage and Distribution Certification Standard is:

• Globally recognized and GFSI benchmarked
• Recognized by retailers around the world, reducing the burden of multiple audits
• Aimed at reducing product recalls, complaints and rejected products
• Set to increase customer confidence, opening new market opportunities
• Based on clearly defined risk-based requirements

The structure of this standard allows an organization to meet core risk-based requirements with the option to add on modules that address your specific business activities. There are eight core requirements for this standard:

• Senior management commitment
• Hazard and risk analysis
• Quality management system
• Site and building standards
• Vehicle operating standards
• Facility management
• Good operating practices
• Personnel

The following voluntary modules such as product inspection, contract packing and quality control inspection may be added for a range of wholesale activities and contracted services.

The primary scope of a BRCGS Storage and Distribution audit is usually packed food products, although the BRCGS Standard also covers packaging and consumer products. 

 The requirements to achieve a BRCGS Food Safety Certificate are contained in the clauses of the BRCGS Food Safety Standard. The key areas that the BRCGS Food Safety Standard (Version 7) covers are:

• Management commitment
• Hazard and risk analysis
• Quality Management System
• Site and building Standards
• Vehicle operating Standards
• Facility Management
• Good Operating Practices
• Personnel Training

The scope of the BRCGS Storage and Distribution audit can be extended with AVM’s (additional voluntary modules) to include: 

• Product Inspection
• Contract Packing
• Quantity Control Checks
• Waste Recovery
• Recycling
