What is information governance?

Information governance is the process of managing information within an organization. It involves a number of steps including;

  2. Analyse and classify the information
  3. Manage the information by either
  • Optimizing information to generate additional value - for example deliver a single view of a customer across multiple business lines
  • Analysing information to gather business intelligence - for example enable smarter business decisions to be made based on a better understanding of what clients are doing right now
  • Securing information - In line with relevant legislation and regulations  
  • Managing the information lifecycle – this includes ensuring data is retained for no longer than necessary, which  reduces storage requirements and costs, enables defensible deletion and ensure readiness for e-discovery requests
