Recently, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has published several further regulations under the Building Safety Act 2022. When it comes to sharing information, no tool is as widely used as Portable Document Format (PDF). As a data format, PDF is incredibly durable, likely due to its adoption within widely used software, which makes the creation and viewing of PDFs almost frictionless. It is also one of the few digital formats which has persisted across its decades of use.

We’ve now published the revised PAS 2080:2023 on managing and reducing carbon in the built environment. The fast-track standard was originally published in 2016 in response to an urgent need to tackle the carbon emissions of the UK built environment sector. It has been widely used by companies within the sector to meet carbon savings targets, including HS2 and Anglian Water. It has now been updated with an expanded scope, a new emphasis on whole life carbon, and stronger alignment with the transition to a net zero carbon economy by 2050. PAS 2080 has been sponsored by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Green Construction Board (GCB), enabling the standard to be offered free of charge to our clients.

Whilst client access to the testing laboratories has been extremely limited, we understand how valuable the opportunity to see your products being tested is. That’s why we have invested in technology that allows our clients to continue to observe their windows and doors security, PAS 24:2016 testing online through Microsoft Teams and various other streaming means.

The built environment currently accounts for at least 40% of the total carbon emissions and huge changes are needed from the sector, to drastically reduce the environmental impact on the planet. This will require all new buildings to be net zero carbon by 2030 and all existing ones by 2050.

Following the release of the BS EN ISO 19650 series, many organizations have begun to adopt good practices around information management. In doing so, it is important to understand that BS EN ISO 19650, and the other standards relating to building information modelling (BIM), are supported by a myriad of other formalized good practice standards. As such, it is important to ensure that good practice is considered holistically. One example is to consider information management within the context of document management.
