Crown Oil Set a New Benchmark for Sustainability in the Fuel industry

Crown Oil has set a new precedent as the first company to achieve both ISO 14068 Carbon Neutrality and BSI’s Net Zero Pathway verification.

    Testimonial

“There is no hiding from the fact that we supply fossil fuels. We feel this gives us a greater responsibility than most to protect the environment.”

    The Company

How a fuel and lubricants specialist succeeded in reducing emissions

Crown Oil is a national fuel and lubricants supplier serving UK businesses and homes for over 75 years. They are committed to implementing effective carbon-reducing solutions at every level of business whilst helping their customers to do the same.

    The Challenge

Achieving net zero direct emissions by 2030 and net zero scope 3 emissions by 2050 within the fossil fuel industry

Already established as the UK’s leading importer and distributor of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel, a renewable fuel alternative, they wanted to break new ground in their environmental efforts.

Instead of waiting for mandatory environmental changes, Crown Oil is pioneering change by getting ahead of the curve. To do this, they have looked beyond carbon neutrality to actively reduce their environmental impact at every level of the organisation and align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

To embed sustainability company-wide, they’ve delivered 800+ hours of staff training, formed a sustainability team of senior managers and cross-team volunteers, and keep all staff informed of sustainability progress.

    The Solution

Crown Oil has been continuously verified to ISO 14068 Carbon Neutrality (formerly PAS 2060) since 2022, and is certified to be net zero by 2050 with the Net Zero Pathway

Continuous emission monitoring, reduction efforts and offsetting through credible projects, all while balancing environmental responsibility with financial sustainability, has delivered top results.

BSI’s verification provides Crown Oil with concrete confidence of the data accuracy when promoting its green credentials to customers, and prove they are set to be net zero for scopes 1 and 2 by 2030 and scope 3 by 2050. The fossil fuel industry faces higher scrutiny than most, and having its targets and emissions monitored externally shows commitment, accountability and transparency. All employees are trained on environmental issues to establish a full, cohesive team effort in reducing carbon footprint and ensures annual improvements are made.

The benefits of combining ISO 14068 with the Net Zero Pathway scheme

Crown Oil has put the right frameworks in place to achieve credible net zero success across the organization.
