What is it?
The new Kitemark certifies the remanufacturing or reconditioning processes carried out by suppliers of items that have been subject to levels of re-work from new, prior to being supplied to customers or end-users. Additionally, it will provide support for grading standards and testing of refurbished devices.
Certification will focus on the processes employed, rather than the end product itself. However, those processes will be validated by looking at the end product.
Our approach takes into account that organizations carrying out work within the scope of this scheme, and eligible for Kitemark status, may not have design control over the products they are supplying, or that there is no publicly available specification for the parts.
Its launch recognizes a need to drive trust in a new industry based on the circular economy and the need to reduce reliance on the earth’s precious and dwindling natural resources. The recommerce market is already worth $9 billion annually and expected to reach $10.6bn by end of 2025.
