CIMIC Group becomes first Australasian company to achieve BIM Kitemark

CIMIC Group companies, CPB Contractors, Leighton Asia, UGL, Sedgman, Pacific Partnerships and EIC Activities, are the first Australasian companies to achieve BSI Kitemark certification for excellence in Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Design and Construction from the business standards leader, BSI Group.

BIM, an increasingly important part of the global construction market place, is a collaborative way of working that uses digital technologies to enable more efficient methods of design and construction. BIM is considered invaluable to the delivery of a construction project as it provides a common single and coordinated source of structured information throughout the lifecycle of a project. It can deliver significant cost savings and efficiencies both during the design/construction and handover stages. The BSI Kitemark for Design and Construction provides independent and impartial evidence that companies are delivering BIM projects against internationally recognized standards.

CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Michael Wright said: “The BSI certification is an exciting recognition of our companies’ leading digital engineering capability that takes a fully integrated approach to Information Management, BIM, Quality Assurance and Asset Management across the lifecycle of the project.

“Digital engineering, such as BIM, is a critical capability that improves value for clients and end users. It creates greater certainty during project delivery and greater efficiency during the operation and maintenance of the ultimate assets. At the completion of construction, clients gain a user-friendly and high quality digital asset that truly complements the quality of the built asset. Advanced use of BIM also better positions our clients to leverage technology in the management of their assets.”

Chris Meehan, General Manager - Operations and Training at BSI Group Australia & New Zealand said: “CIMIC Group should be proud of its achievement. Being awarded the Kitemark shows their commitment to Global Best Practice and gives CIMIC Group clients reassurance that projects will be delivered efficiently and collaboratively. BIM and Smart City development are strongly linked and by demonstrating compliance to BIM processes CIMIC Group is benefitting both their clients and the wider community.”

To achieve Kitemark certification CIMIC Group went through an onsite audit by BSI experts to assess their delivery of projects to contract requirements, measurement and monitoring of client satisfaction against projects, and the management of their supply chain.
