Innovation and design

The Innovation Management System standards have been positioned to support organizations seeking sustained innovation success by developing their ability to lead innovation activities, embed design and innovation into their organization, and provide a level of assurance that good practice is being followed.

The BS EN ISO 56000 suite of standards have been written for organizations of all sizes and maturity – from those wanting to initiate an innovation programme for the first time to those wishing to bring fresh motivation to their existing innovation system.

The series includes:

• BS EN ISO 56003:2021 Innovation management — Tools and methods for innovation partnership — Guidance
• PD CEN ISO/TR 56004:2019 Innovation Management Assessment — Guidance
• BS EN ISO 56005:2021 Innovation management — Tools and methods for intellectual property management — Guidance
• BS ISO 56006:2021 Innovation management — Tools and methods for strategic intelligence management — Guidance

The process of creating international standards in the Innovation Management area takes several years.

It would not have been possible without a dedicated committee of UK experts who attend committee meetings to share their knowledge – committee members who lead international project teams, contribute to reviewing and developing standards, and promote awareness to the wider innovation community and industry through a variety of methods

As the world of innovation around us continues to evolve, so do our standards. Our expert committees are continually evaluating the markets to ensure our standards are offering the most up-to-date and relevant support to organizations.

As a result, IMS/1 are currently working on the development of two further innovation management standards due to be released over the next year:

• BS ISO 56007 Innovation management — Idea management (due 2022)
• BS ISO 56008 Innovation management — Tools and methods for innovation operation measurements — Guidance (due 2023)
• BS ISO 56001- Innovation management — Innovation management system — Requirements (2024)

PAS 440 - the first corporate governance framework for responsible innovation - is usable in any sector of the economy where radically new and innovative technologies, products, services, and processes are being developed.
