Energy saving brand iQE awarded first ever BSI Kitemark for energy efficiency

The first ever BSI Kitemark™ for energy efficient buildings has been awarded to a boiler from iQE, the energy saving brand, as BSI polling of 2,000 home owners reveals that nearly seven in ten people would feel reassured by the presence of a BSI Kitemark™.

iQE has worked closely with BSI (British Standards Institution) to pilot the first Energy Efficient Buildings  Kitemark which has been awarded to the iQE Simplicity Boiler.  The creation of BSI Kitemark™ schemes are driven by the societal needs of today and tomorrow and this scheme has been developed to reassure consumers that the products and services awarded the BSI Kitemark™ for Energy Efficient Buildings are safe, reliable and energy efficient.

The new brand of boilers, which launched earlier this month, aims to help homeowners have more energy efficient homes in the UK and reduce energy bills. Almost 9 in 10 homeowners feel that home energy efficiency is important and a similar proportion want to improve the efficiency of their home as a way to save money. Homeowners can save an average of £310 a year if their boiler works efficiently.

The boilers have been manufactured with intelligence in every last detail. The main heat exchanger is made from high quality stainless steel making it extremely resistant to the corrosive nature of condensate. In addition, the intelligent pre-mixing system combined with constant temperature monitoring means that the boiler responds effortlessly to demand, ensuring ultimate efficiency every time. Furthermore, the unused heat that would normally be lost in the atmosphere is used to pre-heat the returning water as it enters the heat exchanger, resulting in less wasted energy.

iQE Simplicity Boiler

The iQE Simplicity Boiler is exclusively distributed through Kingfisher’s brands to homeowners, fully installed, under the B&Q Energy Saving brand and to trade customers through the Screwfix and TradePoint brands. Not only that but the iQE Simplicity comes with a 10-Year manufacturer's warranty for parts and labour.

Ian Draisey from the iQE Product Alliance, commented; “Here at iQE we’ve been working hard on creating the most energy efficient range of boilers to help households save both energy and money on their heating bills. We’ve been developing our range with our academic partner, Loughborough University, to test, research and develop the very latest in product efficiency and the award of the Kitemark shows how we are leading the way in energy saving.”

Howard Kerr, Chief Executive of BSI

Howard Kerr, Chief Executive of BSI commented, “Today’s achievement of the first BSI Kitemark for Energy Efficient Buildings will give home owners the confidence to invest in boosting the thermal efficiency of their homes, helping address energy waste and reducing our heating bills. Industry initiatives such as iQE, will be an important element in helping the UK reach its 2020 carbon reduction targets.”

Loughborough University’s role in the iQE initiative is being led by Professor Kevin Lomas and Professor Dennis Loveday, of the Building Energy Research Group, School of Civil and Building Engineering. Professor Lomas said: “We are delighted to be working with iQE to provide our technical expertise. We look forward to commencing the modelling work that will help iQE identify the packages of measures needed to help individual households save energy’. Professor Loveday added: ‘We have the skills, experience and facilities to rigorously test and evaluate products, so that customers can feel confident that the measures installed will help them improve the energy efficiency of their homes.”

iQE has launched a pioneering scheme to assist local registered gas help their customers take advantage of a this new Government backed scheme aimed at helping to secure affordable heating to energy poor homes. The initiative named, ‘Feel the benefit’ sees free energy efficient boilers from iQE, which can be installed by Gas Safe Registered Installers in the run up to the cold snap, with the installer receiving an additional £700 towards the installation costs.

Gas Safe Registered Installers can take advantage of this scheme if their customers meet the following criteria:
