Case study: immersive technology in action

Business challenge

An international oil and gas services company has a limited number of HSE staff to perform industrial hygiene assessments across its multiple sites worldwide. This situation has been compounded by the current COVID-19 virus pandemic further limiting the ability of their HSE staff to travel to selected sites to perform audits that are necessary and regulatorily required.

How BSI helped

We deployed our Immersive Technology Solution (ITS) to cover multiple client sites worldwide to collect the required data.
We provided the hardware including “smart wearables” and supporting augmented reality (AR) platform, fully encrypted for security, to facilitate remote environmental compliance audits.
We trained and equipped select sites with the technology so that our subject matter experts (SME) could be immersed in the assessments remotely – observing the site activities through the eyes of the boots already on the ground at the site.
We conducted training and demonstrations with the HSE management so they could deploy the ITS on request, which significantly reduced travel costs, improved carbon footprint, and simplified the scheduling process.
