BSI makes a splash with new code of practice
16 January 2004
BSI, along with the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG) have developed Code of Practice PAS 39:2003 Management of public swimming pools. Water treatment systems, water treatment plant and heating and ventilation systems.
BSI and PWTAG have worked with the industry to create a Publicly Available Specification (PAS) Code of Practice based on the well-known manual, Swimming Pool Water.
This code contains general operational and safety advice for the management of public swimming pool water treatment systems, water treatment plant, and heating and ventilation systems in the UK.
Paul McNeillis of BSI says: ”Many within the industry have been surprised with the lack of official standards or legislation that apply specifically to swimming pools. For more than 10 years PWTAG has campaigned to put this right and in the meantime the Swimming Pool Water manual has served many well. This new PAS complements Swimming Pool Water and together they should encourage pool operators to maintain the highest standards.
PAS 39:2003 can be purchased from BSI for £37 BSI members or £74 non-members. To order a copy contact BSI Customer Services on +44 (0) 20 8996 9001.
The Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG) is an independent, non-commercial membership organisation dedicated solely to raising standards in swimming pool water treatment. PWTAG has been in operation for almost 20 years and publishes the industry's definitive guidelines on the management and operation of pools, Swimming Pool Water: Treatment and Quality Standards.
