What’s this Planning Gateway One (PGO) Webinar about?

Planning gateway one (PGO) was introduced in August 2021 to ensure that relevant high-rise developments consider fire safety at the earliest stages. This webinar, co-hosted by BSI and the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), will provide an overview of PGO and the roles of the statutory consultee and local planning authority.

It will cover learning and feedback received to date, how best to prepare a fire statement for submission, and common themes from previous submissions.

Ant heads up the Built Environment Sector team at the National Standards Body. In addition to providing subject matter expertise and thought leadership he also oversees the identification of new areas of research, standardization and supporting product needs, via engagement with key stakeholders from across government and the wider sector. He also oversees the promotion of the standards portfolio to national and international marketplaces.

A Chartered building surveyor and engineer by background, he has more than 32 years’ experience working in the sector, having worked as both an enforcer, and for 16 years was the UK fire regulator and then head of technical policy for the English Building Regulations. Ant has considerable experience in working directly for UK government ministers and representing the UK at European Commission level on construction related discussions and negotiations.

Ant is a full member of the Government’s statutory Building Regulations Advisory Committee and is Immediate Past President of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers. 

Mark is a chartered town planner and has over 25 years’ experience in local government, central government and consultancy. Originally from Edinburgh but has lived in Bristol with his family since 2000.

Mark joined the Health and Safety Executive in 2021 from the Planning Inspectorate and leads the Planning Gateway One service, which is the statutory consultee on fire safety matters for planning applications that include high-rise residential development. He leads a team of fire safety specialists that are implementing the changes recommended by the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety led by Dame Judith Hackett. 

Aman is Managing Director of Totus Digital, a strategic management consultancy specialising in enhancing safety and efficiency standards across the built environment.

He is the Deputy Chair of the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC), where he is responsible for leading the BRAC Fire Safety (Part B) Technical Review Working Group and regulatory review for buildings out of scope of the new safety case regime. He is also Deputy Chair of the BRAC Golden Thread Working Group.

An experienced non-executive director, he has worked extensively with a number of industry partners, including regulators, local and national government, design houses, developers, housing associations and facility management companies.

Aman chairs BSI committee FSB 1/1/1, leading on the delivery of BS 8644-1 Digital Management of Fire Safety Information.

Known for being a trusted voice for built environment safety standards, Aman is proud to be demonstrating consistent thought leadership to support industry culture change.
