UK National Standards Body

We are the UK's National Standards Body (NSB) and were the first national standards body. We represent UK economic and social interests across all European and international standards organizations and in the development of business information solutions for British organizations of all sizes and sectors.

Standards Policy

This is how we manage our relationships with other standards bodies across the world, as well as central and local government departments.  It also manages the activities of the NSB.

Research and insights

Through government funding, we're able to undertake research and insights into new areas of standardization including cell therapy, financial services, sustainability and synthetic biology.

How to get involved

Choose from the many ways to get involved: join a committee to help develop standards; become a BSI author or consumer representative; or comment on a draft publication.

System Effectiveness and Efficiency Review (STEER)

BSI will be hosting a live interactive webinar in order to provide information and seek feedback on proposals to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the European Standardization System.

Standards Policy and Strategy Committee

The Standards Policy and Strategy Committee (SPSC) is appointed by and ultimately reports to the BSI Board, and assists the development of BSI’s strategic direction.

Innovate UK and emerging technologies

We’re working with Innovate UK and Research Councils UK to create new standards in new technology areas including synthetic biology, cell therapies, offshore renewable energy and assisted living.

Committee member

Committee members get complementary training across many technical and specialist areas – giving them the expertise to produce world-class standards.
