COP26: BSI welcomes the UN’s plans to apply standards to measure and analyse net zero commitments from non-state actors

Scott Steedman, Director-General Standards at BSI said:

“We welcome plans to apply standards to measure and analyse net zero commitments from non-state actors, set out by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, at the World Leaders Summit on day two of COP26.

We recognize the confusion amongst businesses and organizations, using different metrics to track emissions reductions and meet net zero targets. Standards can provide a crucial and consensus-based tool to bring urgent clarity and direction.

Standards are in an exceptional position to provide a trusted, global framework that can deliver real, practical change through the promotion of common approaches to solving complex problems. The consensus process means that all voices are heard and together all stakeholders can capture good practice and agree the best way forward.

BSI commits to support the UN and the Group of Experts to work together for our planet.”
