Why Sustainable Finance standards matter

With a global focus on designing a resilient and sustainable recovery from the CV-19 pandemic, future flows of finance are more active than ever in seeking ways to support sustainable outcomes. Entering its second year ISO/TC 322 on Sustainable Finance has published its strategic plan to guide its future activity, is developing a framework standard and will be publishing shortly a glossary to aid common understanding. This is therefore an excellent time to learn more about the committee's work, and how to engage, influence and contribute to developing international standards in sustainable finance that will meet our expectations of the future.

This is an open webinar organized by ISO/TC 322 and is hosted on its behalf by BSI, for all stakeholders, including those in ISO national member bodies and existing or potential liaison organizations.

Our speakers:

Dr. Peter Young chairs the Strategic Advisory Group for the UK Standards Programme on Sustainable Finance and the British Standards Institute’s committee on sustainability. He is a trustee of the Green Purposes Company, the Broadway Initiative and the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. Peter is Chair of ISO/TC 322 on Sustainable Finance.

Dr. Ma Jun is the Chairman of Green Finance Committee (GFC) of China Society of Finance and Banking, Director of Research Center for Green Finance Development at Tsinghua University, Co-Chair of ISO/TC322 CAG and Chair of Supervision Workstream of the Central Banks and Supervisors Network on Greening the Financial System (NGFS).

Hayden Morgan is an Associate Director with Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG), where he leads a number of initiatives related to green impact and reporting. His expertise covers ESG, responsible investment, impact investment and climate change mitigation. He is Convenor of the TC322 group on the ISO Sustainable Finance Framework Standard (ISO 32210), leading global experts to develop best practice guidance to support financial organizations integrate sustainability principles within their activities.

Dr. Bolu Wang is the Green Project Team Lead at the Research Center for Green Finance Development of Tsinghua University. She works with financial regulators, top-tier banks and private equity investors committed to advancing sustainable or green finance. She focuses on green financial product innovation and currently acts as the Convenor of Ad Hoc Group Terminology under ISO TC/322.

Franz Knecht is the founder of Connexis AG, an international strategic advisory company for sustainable development implementation in the financial industry. He previously worked for Swiss Bank Corporation (now UBS AG) and was their first Head of Sustainable Banking Solutions. He has many years’ experience in ISO standards, and is Convenor of the ISO/TC 322 group on future standards development.

Dr. LI Pengcheng is the Team Leader of Energy Conservation and Low Carbon Group in China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS). He is the Convenor of ISO/TC 207/SC 4/ISO/TC 322 Joint Working Group Green Finance and Convenor of ISO/TC 207/TG 1 Sustainable Finance Coordination. His major fields include energy efficiency standardization, energy efficiency policy and program evaluation, and green finance standardization.

Mike Henigan is the Committee Manager for ISO/TC 322. He project-managed the revision to ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and was previously Publisher at the Association of Corporate Treasurers
