What does BSI Flex 1890 cover?

BSI Flex 1890 v4.0 defines terms, abbreviations and acronyms for the connected and automated vehicle (CAV) sector, focused on those relating to vehicles and associated technologies.

Why is it needed?

BSI Flex 1890 v4.0 provides a consistent and reliable set of terms and definitions relating to connectivity and automation of roadgoing, land-based vehicles and their users. Examples of new terms added to the vocabulary include remote operation, remote monitoring and place of relative safety.

Who is it for?

This document is for use by insurers, regulators, legislators and organizations involved in CAV infrastructure, as well as CAV manufacturers, developers and consumers.

It is also supportive to users of other BSI CAV standards.

Flex 1890 has been developed via a dynamic and iterative standardization approach, called BSI Flex. This approach permits a rapid response to industry changes and can result in the publication of several versions a year. Therefore, by its nature, the CAV vocabulary will change from time to time with subsequent iteration.

BSI Flex 1890 v4.0 has undergone technical review, a consensus building process and public consultation. All subsequent versions will go through this review process.
