Teaching about standards

Through a growing range of activities, resources and materials, we work with universities to help raise student awareness of the benefits of standards to society and the economy, and to encourage and increase participation in standards-making.

Guest talks

We offer free guest talks and lectures to UK universities, either face-to-face or virtually.

Delivered by BSI members of staff and experts from our standards committees, they are designed to help raise students’ awareness of the important role of industry standards in the modern economy.

Lectures can also include tailored content to suit the needs of particular teaching programmes.

This may include information on the impact on standards on trade, productivity, innovation and growth, the history of standardization, how standards are made or the role of the National Standards Body.

Teaching standards case studies

From sustainability management to computer science, from quality management to design, UK academics share their views and experiences on teaching about standards and standardization on their undergraduates and postgraduate programmes.

Use our teaching standards slide deck to help students learn more about how standards enable innovation.
