Dan Purtell

Dan Purtell

Senior Vice President

Dan Purtell is the Senior Vice President of BSI’s Supply Chain Solutions group; a position he’s held for eleven years.  At BSI, he leads an organization which provides Security and Risk Management consulting services, Compliance software, Intelligence and global auditing services.  Prior, he served eleven-years as a Counterterrorism and Investigative Program Manager in the US Air Force and for nine-years as Intel Corporation’s Global Supply Chain Security Manager.

Dan served as Chairman of the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA), a 1,000 member high-value cargo security group with active groups in Asia, Americas, and Europe.  He is considered one of the top supply chain security experts in the world having conducted transportation infrastructure risk analysis in 70 countries.  He holds a patent for the development of a supply chain risk and compliance algorithm which analyzes terrorism and supply chain disruption exposures for international suppliers. 


Jim Yarbrough

Global Intelligence Program Manager

Jim Yarbrough leads BSI’s team of supply chain security analysts and assesses the potential threat of terrorism and cargo disruption to countries and businesses worldwide. Jim provides international cargo threat information and analysis to governments around the world and to a number of Fortune 500 companies. These assessments are integral to the Global Risk Analysis & Data Evaluation (GRADE) tool that BSI provides to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Jim also developed a unique study on acts of terrorism that specifically target supply chain infrastructure, personnel, and modes of transportation, which is being used today by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials. Jim previously served as a Research Associate with the Center for International Trade & Security at the University of Georgia. There, he conducted on-site assessments and provided analysis on foreign export control and border security practices on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. 


 Sean Doherty

Sean recently retired after serving 35 years with the US Customs Service and US Customs and Border Protection.  He served in numerous key managerial positions in both New York and Washington, DC. Sean was also a key contributor to the development of the Customs-Trade Partnerships Against Terrorism Program (C-TPAT) and was selected to be the first C-TPAT Field Director of the New York Field Office.  

As the principal field manager for the C-TPAT program, Sean provided guidance and assistance to many corporations representing the pharmaceutical sector and provided support to the New York based pharmaceutical Center of Excellence and Expertise. As the C-TPAT Acting Director in Washington, DC Sean was responsible for managing the program on a national level and coordinated the activities of the seven field offices and over 160 personnel.  


Shelley Sjerven

SCM Program Manager

Shelley Sjerven leads the BSI Supplier Compliance Manager (SCM) Team and is responsible for managing development, integration and expansion of the SCM tool. Shelley and her team work closely with customers and stakeholders to ensure that the SCM tool meets their ongoing internal and external supply chain compliance needs; including corporate social responsibility, business continuity, sustainability and overall supply chain security. 

Shelley’s experience includes serving eight years as the Corporate Security Manager at Avnet, Inc. where she managed the C-TPAT program and lead foreign onsite validations for both importers and foreign manufacturers. In addition, she was responsible for the emergency response team, the ethics and compliance program facilitation and training, corporate event security, security and supply chain assessments, and Investigations.


Ryan Lynch

Head of Corporate Social Responsibility

Ryan Lynch has worked with colleagues and customers over the past decade to design solutions to support transparency and collaboration across complex supply chains within a variety of industries. As Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at BSI, Ryan leads the development and delivery of CSR advisory services to support multinational businesses establish sound practices to improve performance, manage social/environmental risk throughout the supply chain & make informed decisions based on data leveraging BSI’s best-in-class software tools. He has designed and managed supply chain risk management programs and software tools; and has conducted assessments and training in factories and farms in North America, Europe, China, India, Southeast Asia and Central America.
