It's a simple 5 stage process:
1. We publish our research themes
Our research themes range from cyber security in connected and autonomous vehicles, to the safe and effective use of e-medicine. However, we also encourage applications on any subject that touch on the issues of standards and standardization.

2. Students complete online application form
Our online form gives students the chance to describe the aims and objectives of the research project. We are also keen to learn more about what the research hopes to achieve and what outcomes are predicted.

3. Applications are reviewed and approved
We will respond to applications within 10 working days, and we may seek clarification about particular aspects of the project. Applicants may be also invited for interview with us before approval is granted.
4. Research is undertaken with BSI support
Successful applicants agree a timetable of support with us before the project commences. This support is provided in addition to and not a replacement for academic supervision from a university tutor.
5. Projects are submitted, published and promoted
When the research is completed, students will be asked to present their findings to us and our standards committees. We will also work with the student to identify other ways to promote and publicise the research.
