BSI Eurocodes Symposium was successfully held on 7 March 2014 (Friday) in the newly built Zero Carbon Building in Hong Kong . The Symposium was organised by BSI with sponsorship from The Concrete Producers Assocation of Hong Kong and the 6 supporting organizations as below.

Combining overseas speakers together with the local experts, the Symposium proved to be an excellent platform to show BSI thought leadership in Standards Creation and industry trends setting.

BSI Eurocodes Symposium presentations
BSI Hong Kong Managing Director, Mr. Emmanuel Herve welcomed all the guests with a speech entitled “BSI and the Eurocodes a 30 years long story”.
British Consulate General Hong Kong Mr. Paul Lynch, Deputy Head of Mission, and Director of Trade and Investment gave an opening speech.
Prof. Christopher To, Executive Director, Construction Industry Council, shared Hong Kong Eurocodes Feasibility Study Report.
Dr. Stephen Hicks, General Manager of Structural Systems at New Zealand Heavy Engineering Research Association gave a separate speech on “Global Eurocodes Implementation” and “ Eurocodes requirement on Concrete Design”.
Dr. John Tomlinson, Director of Sales for BSI Standards, explained how it can be easier for the Eurocodes user to deal with the changes and transition.
Prof. K.F. Chung, Associate Head (Academic Development) of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, President of the Hong Kong Constructional Metal Structures Association, and Council member of the Institution of Structural Engineers) discussed new opportunities and challenges in adopting Eurocodes in Hong Kong.
Mr. Andy Matthews, Senior Bridge Engineer Engineering Design Group Devon County Council, Devon and Cornwall regional group Chairman for the IStrucE, shared his UK experience and showed the first Eurocodes Design back in 2009.
Dr. Martin Tam, Founder and CEO of Able Mart Limited explained bamboo use in the construction industry and its role in the Eurocodes era.
