ISO 9001 Revision

ISO 14001 Revision

New International Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems

The world’s first occupational health and safety international standard is currently being developed. It will help your organization provide a safe and healthy workplace for your workers and other people, prevent deaths, work-related injury and ill-health as well as continually improve OH&S performance.

Latest ISO 45001 update –November 2017

The Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) of ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) has been published.

Publication of the final standard is likely to be in the first half of 2018.

OHSAS 18001 will be withdrawn on publication of ISO 45001 and organizations currently certified to OHSAS 18001 will have a three year period to upgrade to ISO 45001.

BSI will continue to keep clients updated with the development of this standard and provide support materials and training courses to support you.

NOW AVAILABLE - ISO/DIS 45001 Draft International Standard

ISO has released the official Draft International Standard for Public Comment (DPC). You can now explore the standard  in detail and familiarize yourself with it.
You can comment on the individual clauses via the BSI Draft Review site or explore it and its requirements in more detail if you purchase a copy.

What are the anticipated benefits of ISO/DIS 45001?

ISO/DIS 45001 brings occupational health and safety management and continual improvement into the heart of an organization. This new standard is an opportunity for organizations to align their strategic direction with their OH&S management system. In addition, there is an increased focus on improving occupational health and safety performance.

Our customers tell us they get multiple benefits as a result of implementing and adopting occupational health and safety management systems, such as:

• Reduce work related injuries, ill health and death

•Eliminate or minimize OH&S risks

• Improve OH&S performance and effectiveness

• Demonstrate corporate responsibility and meet supply chain requirements

• Protect brand reputation

• Motivate and engage staff through consultation and participation

ISO 45001 Whitepaper: An update on the latest developments of the new International Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management System

Before the development of the BS OHSAS 18000 Series in 1999, there had been a lot of confusion andfragmentation in the market. This was due to organizations choosing from a variety of national healthand safety standards and proprietary certification schemes. These individual schemes often carried nocredibility and created trade barriers on national and international levels.

What should I do to certify BS OHSAS 18001?

BS OHSAS 18001 is still valid and it is envisaged will be for some time after the new ISO Standard is published. Companies will still benefit from implementing and certifying against BS OHSAS 18001 and certification will be allowed for a period of time following the publication of ISO 45001 later this year.

Return to our BS OHSAS 18001 page to see how we can help you to become certified.

I’m currently certified to BS OHSAS 18001. What do I need to do?

Once the revised standard has been published in 2016, BSI will support you through a transition process to ISO 45001. A transition period will be set and we will provide you with guidelines and training to help you make your transition as smooth as possible.

Part of the reason that BSI is the first choice provider for certification is that we will support you through standard changes and revisions, helping you to understand how the changes affect – and benefit – your organization.
