Initiative for Engagement of CIC-certified BIM Coordinators in Capital Works Projects

21 July 2021

Under the Development Bureau ("DEVB") Technical Circular (Works) No. 12/2020 (“Circular”), the contractor/ consultant engaged for capital works projects with estimates more than $30 million and with tenders to be invited on or after 1 January 2021 shall establish a Building Information Modelling (BIM) team led by a BIM Team Leader who shall be a CIC-Certified BIM Manager (CCBM) with effect from 1 July 2021.

On 16 July 2021, the DEVB issued Technical Circular (Works) No. 12/2020 with a memo, which promulgates the initiative that:

For all technical and fee proposals of consultancy agreements and construction works tenders of capital works projects with BIM adoption to be invited on or after 1 January 2022, the BIM Coordinators who are not CIC-certified BIM Coordinator (CCBC) so engaged in capital works projects shall complete the CIC-Accredited BIM Coordinator Course by 1 July 2022.

The Circular also mentions the intention of DEVB to mandate the engagement of CCBC as the BIM Coordinators in capital works projects with BIM adoption in the long run tentatively from 2023 onwards.

CIC-Certified BIM Coordinator Training

BSI’s Global BIM Coordinator Professional Training is accredited by the CIC and the course is now open for application.

The first training course was successfully held during March and Apr 2021. The delegates attended the interactive classes in both BSI and isBIM offices for learning not only BIM concept, local & global contexts, BIM standards and guidelines, BIM software, but also Common Data Environment (CDE), data quality control & assurance across various stages. By completing the course, the delegates will be able to understand BIM software and the modelling process and digital information management, collaboration and integration.

For your early preparation for BIM adoption and fulfilment of DEVB's requirement, complete your CCBC course this year to avoid the peak season before the deadline.
