BSI performs strongly with continued global growth

BSI, the business improvement company, has announced its results for the year ended 31 December 2017. Global revenue has risen for the eighteenth year in a row to £473 million – an increase of 18% - while underlying operating profit has grown by 19% to its highest ever mark of £59.5 million.

British standard for procurement of facilities services revised

BSI, the business standards company, has published BS 8572:2018 Procurement of facility related services. Code of practice. The revised standard guides those responsible for the management of facilities – such as officer managers, owner-occupiers, landlords and tenants – through a roadmap for successful procurement.

BSI first to provide verification to Government’s IoT code of practice

BSI, the business improvement company, today launches a compliance scheme and governance framework for the Internet of Things (IoT). The scheme allows ‘smart’ devices and applications to be assessed against the Government’s new IoT proposed code of practice announced earlier this month by Margot James, Minister for Digital and the Creative Industries.

BSI signs deal with Japanese Standards Associations

BSI, the UK National Standards Body appointed by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, has signed an agreement with the Japanese Standards Association (JSA) today. This Memorandum of Understanding will increase collaboration between BSI and Japan, to further economic ties between the two nations. The agreement builds on extensive engagement between BSI and Japan, complementing agreements signed between BSI and the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee in December 2004 and re-signed in March 2017.

UK’s virtual reality tech sector needs industry-agreed standards in order to take off

BSI, the business standards company, has published a report calling for the creation of best practice guidance to grow the nascent virtual and augmented reality sectors. The UK is a strong player in the global markets for gaming, video content creation and broadcast – as well as the supporting R&D, education/training, and design and innovation sectors. BSI’s new report, The Requirement for Standards in the VR and AR Sectors, cites the pivotal role that standardization will play in moving virtual/augmented reality technology from the niche to the mainstream.

First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) is the first financial institution and one of the first organizations worldwide to conform to ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems Standard, as independently assessed by BSI.

First ten companies achieve conformity to the new international standard for occupational health and safety

CBRE GWS EMEA, Colas Rail Ltd, EMCOR UK, Eurovia UK, Interserve, Morgan Sindall, OKI UK Ltd, OPG, Overbury and Ringway Jacobs are the first ten UK and worldwide companies to have been independently assessed by BSI and achieve conformity to ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety.

New international standard for occupational health and safety management, ISO 45001, launched

BSI, the business standards company, has published the first global standard for occupational health and safety management, ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management – requirements with guidance for use. ISO 45001 specifies requirements for creating an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, with interpretation guidance to enable an organization to improve OH&S performance in the workplace. The requirements in the standard are applicable to all organizations, irrespective of its size, activities.

DFS has become the first and only UK furniture retailer to be certified to the BSI Kitemark™ for upholstered furniture. The BSI Kitemark is one of the most established and recognized symbols of quality and safety throughout the world, giving consumers the confidence that a product or service goes above and beyond standard levels of quality, and can be trusted to meet the highest levels of safety and reliability.

New guide to improve consumer product safety recalls

The Government’s new Office for Product Safety and Standards has teamed up with BSI, the UK’s National Standards Body, to launch the first Government-backed Code of Practice (PAS 7100) for product safety recall in the UK. The Code of Practice includes details on how a business can monitor the safety of products and plan for a recall, and how Market Surveillance Authorities such as local authority Trading Standards can support businesses in their monitoring of incidents and their implementation of corrective action.

New BIM specification for sharing health and safety info during construction projects

BSI, the business standards company, has launched a specification for the sharing of health and safety information through a project or asset-life cycle. PAS 1192-6 Specification for collaborative sharing and use of structured Health and Safety information using BIM supports the development of structured health and safety information for all construction projects from the outset.

David Davis and Greg Clark spoke earlier this week (20 February) about the UK’s desire for UK-EU trade post-Brexit to remain “as frictionless as possible” and commented on the important role that industry standards will continue to play in the economy after the UK leaves the EU.

Cyber-attack top business threat for third year running

The large-scale cyber-attacks that took place last year reaffirmed the need to build cyber resilient organizations, according to the seventh edition of the BCI Horizon Scan 2018, released today in association with BSI. For the second year in a row, the threat of data breach was ranked second.

Standard for designing accessible buildings and facilities revised to be more inclusive

BSI, the business standards company, has revised BS 8300:2018 Design of an accessible and inclusive built environment. The revised standard aims to give clients, design professionals, builders, local government officials, enforcers and ultimately users of buildings the information they need to create an inclusive environment from the outset of a project.

New specification for care of racing greyhounds launched

BSI, the business standards company, has launched a new specification for looking after racing greyhounds housed in residential trainers’ kennels. The specification is comprehensive in its scope, covering requirements for constructing the kennels, bedding, diet, and the appropriate veterinary healthcare of greyhounds, among other requirements.
