Protecting the well-being of people working in the adult social care sector

The adult social care sector is characterized internationally by low pay, high staff turnover and high vacancy rates. During the pandemic it has borne the brunt of caring for the most vulnerable people and those most at risk.

But what of the well-being of the tens of thousands of people worldwide – mainly women, working in the adult social care sector? Many staff in the sector are burnt out, traumatised by their experiences and remain under significant levels of stress.

What can the sector do to support workers who have been through this experience, to manage the fall-out from the pandemic and promote a culture of care in the sector? This new whitepaper examines the experience of the sector around the world, sets out the challenges and considers some ways forward.
